What to See in London For a First Time Visitor
London is home to a huge number of world-class attractions, making it a very exciting city for tourists. If you're arriving at Gatwick airport, transfers into the city are easy and convenient, leaving plenty of time to get out there and explore! If this is your first time in the vibrant UK capital, here are some of the things you should not miss.
The London Eye
This huge wheel was opened in 2000 to mark the Millennium, and it's not hard to book your place to head up into the air to enjoy astounding views of the city. From the top you will get one of the best views of London; they are rivalled only by the vistas from the Shard, but the London Eye is more fun! It's a great way to start the day if the morning is crisp and clear, but even on a cloudy day the view is spectacular.
The Tower of London
This is one of London's most famous attractions, and it is quite often one of the first things tourists flock to see after arriving on their Gatwick airport transfers into the city. Go early to avoid the crowds (because it does get busy) so you can enjoy seeing the Crown Jewels without having to share them with hundreds of other people. The Beefeaters run free tours, and this is a great option, as you will learn all about the fascinating history of the tower from the experts.
St Paul's Cathedral
This iconic London structure is one of the must-see attractions, and you'll probably catch a glimpse of it as you head to your accommodation on your Gatwick airport transfers. You can go on a guided tour of the cathedral or just wander around yourself. Head up to the top to try out the Whispering Gallery, and go even higher, if you have the energy, to enjoy another fantastic view of the city.
Hampton Court Palace
Jump on a train from Waterloo and in half an hour you will arrive at Hampton Court Palace. This vast palace complex is more like a small village and is very well preserved. You can spend a day exploring all the rooms and finding out about Henry VIII and his lifestyle and there are also some beautiful gardens and a maze to see.
You can go on a tour of Buckingham Palace at certain times of the year, but otherwise you can always just enjoy it from the outside. The Changing of the Guard is a popular ritual, so find out when it is on and get there early to get a front row view.
See a Show in the West End
Head to the West End in the evening and you will find plenty of theatres where you can watch spectacular musicals, plays and other productions. There is so much to choose from, so find out what's on when you are here and enjoy a night to remember.
See the Best of London
You could spend weeks exploring London and still not see everything there is to see. However, once you've arrived on your Gatwick airport transfers and you are ready to explore, the above suggestions are some of the best things to see and do, so keep them in mind.
