A Zimbabwean African safari experience

Zimbabwe has a lot to offer the wildlife enthusiast. My Zimbabwe ten day safari package was full of highlights and it made for the ultimate African safari experience for me. It began with the scenic rocks of Matopos Hills. Next, I was walking with lions at the lion sanctuary in Antelope Park. I had a magical time observing the Big Five at the Hwange National Park where sightings of the much loved five are quite frequent. My holiday ended with a bang as I got to watch the majestic Victoria Falls which also happen to be one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the World'. All of this was jam packed into ten days of non stop adventure!

Matopos Hills is a marvelous destination to consider for tourists exploring Africa. It was discovered by the great explorer Cecil John Rhodes, who was very familiar with Southern Africa, he came to the definite conclusion that it was the ‘most beautiful place in the world'. Matopos Hills is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, re-affirming Rhodes adoration was worthy. The activities offered here include rock climbing, absailing, bird watching, fishing, canoeing, horse riding and for the adventurous; rhino tracking! Both the endangered Black and White rhino species can be observed here.

Antelope Park, located in the Midlands is primarily a lion sanctuary. The park is surrounded by a lake which makes for a spectacular view at sunset. A walk with the lions is just one of the activities offered. They also provide the opportunity to witness a lion feed. Antelope Park also offers elephant rides that begin before sunset as well as the much loved ‘booze cruise' which also departs shortly before sunset. There is also an array of bird life waiting to be spotted as well as snake viewing for the more daring!

Hwange National Park occupies 14 650km2 of land that is rich and abundant in diverse wildlife. This national park boasts of over a hundred mammals including all of Africa's Big Five, as well as almost four hundred recorded bird species. The African elephants of Hwange are world famous and they have one of the largest populations in the world. The activities available here include game drives and guided walks. Moonlight game viewing is also available around the full moon period, subject to weather conditions. Night time in Hwange National Park is a memorable experience. The sunset here is accompanied by a symphony of sounds such as trumpeting elephants, majestically declaring their priceless existence.

As the great explorer, Cecil John Rhodes canoed down the Zambezi River, he encountered the most beautiful thing he had ever seen: The Victoria Falls. This natural wonder deserves to be ranked with other remarkable destinations such as the Great Barrier Reef. The sheer sound of the waterfalls as the breadth of the Zambezi plummets into the fissear is a unique and wonderful experience in itself. This wonderland boasts of activities that include canoeing, white water rafting, elephant back safaris, ‘The Flight of Angels' (which is a helicopter flight over the  Victoria Falls), game drives, a sunset cruise along the Zambezi River, walking safaris, bungee jumping, rhino walks, fishing and a variety of high wire activities.

The great destinations I mentioned above make Zimbabwe the underdog of African safari packages. Give a Zimbabwe African safari packages a try. You may just find it worth it like I did.
