The Los Cabos International Film Festival Is Coming Up!

Need an excuse to go on a tropical vacation?  Next November is Baja California's annual Los Cabos International Film Festival!  Since 2012, directors, actors, producers and movie-lovers all over the world have gathered at one of Mexico's premier resort destinations to celebrate and discuss Mexican and North American culture and cinema.  Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend!

This year, the festival will take place November 12th to November 16th.  Attendees may enjoy national and international premiers, galas, parties, outdoor screenings, and a variety of other entertainment.  Québécois filmmaker, Xavier Dolan is confirmed to make an appearance during the Latin American premiere of his film MommyMommy won the Jury Prize of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

As described by the festival's official website, the event is "a meeting dedicated to a shared vision of a multicultural and exciting region…to explore new, risky, pensive and inspirational cinematographic proposals for international audiences."

Accordingly, the festival draws attendees and filmmakers from across Mexico, the United States, and all around the world.  The 2012 festival drew over 5,000 attendees, including high-profile celebrities and hundreds of filmmakers and film executives.

Last year's festival brought Gael García Bernal.  Bernal began his career as a soap opera heartthrob and has since then starred in numerous award winning films, including Y Tu Mamá También, and Babel.  The 2013 festival honored his attendance with a tribute award.

Each year, the film festival incorporates two competitive sections: The Los Cabos Competition and Mexico First.  In The Los Cabos Competition, fiction films and documentaries from Mexico, Canada and the United States compete to qualify for a prize.

This year's competition features a range of films, including Tu dors Nicole, a story about friendship and growing up, and Violent, an independent drama carrying heavier themes.

The Mexico First Competition solely considers feature films from Mexico.

Awards are presented as cash prizes, with winning films and filmmakers taking away up to $15,000.  The cash award is aimed at supporting producers so that they can continue their work.

Those who wish to attend the festival may purchase one day passes at $70 each.  These passes include a ticket for the gala and four complimentary tickets to the festival screenings.

Pricier passes allow guests to enjoy all the festival galas, along with the red carpet and outdoor screenings.  Experienced filmmakers and movie-lovers may be interested in the industry badge.

The film festival has partnered with Aeromexico to offer discounted rates for attendees, and the airline is currently offering a 15% off promotional code.

The festival has also collaborated with hotels along the Tourist Corridor, a stretch of development between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.  Popular resorts such the Sol Mar and Marina Fiesta are set to offer marked down rates for any and all festival goers.

Whether you consider yourself a movie junkie or not, the Los Cabos Film Festival is a chance to see some of the world's most respected and new films in an unparalleled environment – don't miss out and come see what this beautiful place has to offer!
